Shrimp Festivals

The Gulf Shores, Alabama Shrimp Festival is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2011. The dates are October 13th through the 16th. Many people take a four day holiday and attend the festival. Over 300,000 festival goers crowd Gulf Shores during the shrimp festival.

Bands play on the East and West stages throughout the day starting at 10:00 a.m. Many musical styles are exhibited including zedico, soul, rock, jazz, and country.

The mouth watering shrimp dishes are one of the main attractions. The shrimp recipes range from fried, boiled to blackened. Three-hundred venders plus work the festival and more than 200 craftsmen and artists show their creations.

Louisiana Shrimp and Pertroleum Festival

This shrimp festival has been around for 76 years and it breaks loose each Labor Day weekend. it is a true ole timer. Time Magazine has reported on this Louisiana jamboree. Cajun food is the delicious fare and the music is varied with rock, country, Cajun, and zydeco played. during this weekend event.

Numerous artists and craftsmen set up and other entertainment and activities include a golf tourney and a 5-k run.

Shrimp Festivals Galore

Other shrimp celebrations held in the United Sates are the Delcambre Shrimp Festival in Delcambre, Louisiana which features carnival rides, a cook off, water fights, a street fair, fais-do-do's, music, and a queen's pageant. It is an annual August event.

Beaumont, South Carolina and Galveston Island, Texas also celebrates that tasty seafood critter with their own festivities.
